Jayne Reads // Divergent - Veronica Roth

It's been a long time since I have read a book that has truly drawn me into it's world. A book where I think about it when I'm not reading it, it creeps into my day... I read it whenever I get a spare ten minutes and I fall asleep with my kindle in my hands. The last books I read like that was The Hunger Games trilogy until Divergent came along.
Divergent was a book that I always wanted to read but one I never got round to reading. Once I heard that the final book in the trilogy had been released I finally decided to make a purchase. I read the whole book from cover to cover within a week, I read whenever I wasn't doing anything else. The world of Divergent totally drew me in.
Divergent is set in a dystopian Chicago and society is divided into five fractions - Candor, Abnegation, Dauntless, Amity and Erudite. Our main character is Tris a 16 year old girl from Abnegation and like all 16 year old that year she must choose she must choose the fraction to which she will devote the rest of her life to. She has to choose between staying with her family or being true to herself.
I don't want to go into too much detail about the story because if you haven't read it I don't want to spoil it! The storyline is very captivating. Like Katniss in The Hunger Games Tris is a very strong, independent woman but unlike Katniss when we first meet Tris she doesn't know it yet. we see Tris grow and develop as the book progresses yet we are still reminded that she is just a 16 year old girl. There is of course a love story within the book which I think was very well written and above all, believable.
I cannot wait for the film which comes out in March 2014, I really hope it is a good adaptation. From what I have seen it looks good and I was a tad excited when I found out that they have cast Theo James as Four (I loved him in Bedlam)!
You can buy Divergent on amazon for £5.75.
And just in case you haven't seen it yet, here's the trailer!
