Today is my first week of living life as a full time yoga teacher, I am one week in...Last Friday was amazing, overcome with excitement. Monday it hit me... will people come to my classes?
With gyms and leisure centres your audience is already there. They have a membership and will drop on in when they want to do some yoga. Friday evening was a great example, I headed on down to cover the class for the regular teacher and was shocked by just how many people showed up to do yoga on a Friday night, 35! Oh my gosh, there is yoga love right there. Monday afternoon however was a different story... there is a beautiful studio in town which is a lovely light space right near the city centre. Perfect right? Of course being in such a great location all the prime time evening spots are taken so I set up an afternoon class. No one showed. I was a bit upset but then I realised that I do have to build up this class myself. I had done all the work I could online but nothing beats flyers, local advertising and of course word of mouth! So I got to work on my flyers and today I posted them in the studio for people to pick up. I will be dropping some more down round coffee shops, health food stores and anywhere else I can think of that might want to take my flyer.
On Wednesday I had a morning class at the same studio and eight people showed. Amazing, my heart felt full again. I met a lovely group of yogis who will hopefully come again next week and maybe to my Monday class.. who knows! Put in the work, get the word out, spread the light and your tribe will find you. Have faith in yourself. Life throws things at us sometimes to try and throw us off course. We need to be a 'mirror for the light and not a sponge for the dark'. So if you, like me, are just starting out on something.. have faith, let things flow and never, never give up!
Love & light.
