I was asked the other day how I fit yoga practice into my day alongside other workouts, so I thought that I would answer that question here.
For me my practice is my priority. Some days I love to run, others I really feel like doing a workout DVD, other days all I crave is yoga. What is important is that you love and MOVE your body every single day. I think that through yoga you learn to be simply happy just as you are. Anyone who knows me knows that I love Instagram but recently I have seen a lot of self doubt and negativity on there. Why? Because Summer is around the corner and people are looking to get 'bikini ready' - which is great! Move your body, eat healthy foods but also allow yourself to find balance in your life. People feel that they have to put themselves down and be negative about their bodies in their 'before' photo - I know the feeling, trust me I have been there!. So this is why I am writing to you today to tell you that in order to move forwards you need to find that space where you are happy just as you are, without changing a thing. If you find that place of happiness you'll find that nothing else matters, everything else falls away. You'll find that by being in that happy space you'll want to look after your body, eat healthy and live your life!
I love these little online communities which form through workout and lifestyle programs - I have followed Tone It Up for years and I highly recommend them if you are looking for a place to start BUT! Remember to stay true to yourself. If something doesn't work for you or your schedule then don't do it - it really doesn't matter!
Well I went off on a tangent but I guess my point is that do what feels good for you every single day. With my own yoga practice some days all I want a really sweaty 90 minute vinyasa flow and other days I just simply need stillness focusing on the inhales and exhales, grounding and finding my centre. Let yourself have slow days, adapt your practice to what you are feeling in that moment... that is the beauty of yoga and the beauty of life.
