Today we are breaking down how to do ragdoll pose. If you have ever been to one of my classes you will know that ragdoll pose is a favourite of mine. It's a great pose for anyone who suffers from low back pain. This pose helps to stretch and lengthen the hamstrings which in turn helps to release tension in the lower back, everything is linked in the body so stretching out another part of the body often helps that place where you are feeling tension.
I like adding this pose into the warm up sequence of a yoga class. It's great to do either first thing in the morning or at the end of a busy day working at a desk.
Tips for how to do Rag Doll Pose:
- Feet hip distance apart
- Keep a bend in the knees
- Think about allowing the chest to melt towards the mat below you, let the upper body hang
- Keep the back of the neck long
- Allow the head to hang heavy between the upper arms
- Breathe into the hamstrings and think about releasing any tension on the exhale
Benefits - Stretches the back of the legs, calms the mind, releases tension in the lower back.
