I hope that you are enjoying the holidays and taking a break for yourself. I know that sometimes this time of the year can leave you feeling a little bit frazzled from family, friends, travel and eating not so great food so I thought that I would put together a short yoga sequence which you can do to de-stress and chill out.
Knees to Chest - This pose is such a nice release for the low back and hips. Hug the knees in but make sure to keep the chin tucked towards the chest so that the back of the neck is long.
Thread the Needle - A fantastic but gentle hip opener which is great for low back pain. Pull the thigh towards you while encouraging the opposite knee to move towards the front of the room. If you are extra flexy then you can interlace your fingers around the front of the shin rather than the back of the thigh. Keep the low back glued to the mat and tailbone reaching towards the front of the room. Make sure to switch sides.
Happy Baby - One of my favourite restorative poses and also a hip opener! I like rocking side to side and extending one leg and then the other for an extra hamstring stretch.
Wind Pose - I love this pose if I am feeling a little bloated, it just seems to get everything moving! (tmi maybe, sorry).
Supine Spinal Twist - Twists are always a favourite, again great for detoxing and very healing for the spine. Allow gravity to do the work and your body to feel heavy.
Supine Cobbler - Another hip opener and a great stretch which targets the inner thighs, I often like to do either cactus arms to allow my heart to be open or have my right hand on my belly and my left hand of my heart to tune into my breath.
Legs up the Wall - A pose I recommend that you make time for every day. You can stay here for about 10 breaths or maybe 2-5 minutes if you like. It is a pose which is very healing for the lower back and promotes all round improved circulation and wellbeing.
What are your favourite ways to chill out during the holidays? I also love to get lost in a good book, I am currently reading The Lie and enjoying it so far!
PS: There are only 3 days left to take advantage of the early bird pricing for my March retreat. I have 6 spaces left - come play!
