Back in December we were down in Devon visiting family and went to the local Christmas farmers market. It has become tradition that we go to the Christmas market every year if we can. I love it, it's based on a farm and the stalls are in the cowsheds. This year they even had reindeer's! I love markets like this because you can usually find presents which are handmade and different to things that you find in the high street stores. So anyway on a hunt for presents Matt and I ended up chatting to a guy who had a chocolate stall - Solkiki Chocolate. I loved the story behind the brand so much that I thought it would be good to share on the blog.
Solkiki Chocolate is a family owned business based in Dorset, UK (I love that they are small, family owned and based in the UK!). Iris and Bob began their chocolate crafting adventures when they were looking for good bars of dark chocolate and vegan white chocolate, unable to find what they were looking for they decided to start experimenting. They pride themselves on creating a product that not only tastes amazing but they are ethical every step of the way from bean to bar - the people involved, economy, community, animals and environment.
They work using micro batches of the best ingredients and they don't cut corners. No added fats, GMOs, lecithin, vanillin, pesticides or herbicides. Just the good stuff!
Solkiki Chocolate has won quite a few awards and you can see why. We picked up a bar of CASTILLO (Dominican Republic) - 49% Mylk and Unroasted 70% Fortunato No.4 Chocolate. I love a good quality dark chocolate and the 70% hits the spot! One of the reasons I like dark chocolate so much is that I am less likely to eat the bar all in one go, I can have a couple of squares and it will satisfy my cravings. The mylk chocolate is also delicious and I can't believe it is vegan. The high quality of the cacao butter gives it a super creamy taste.
I would love to know if you have discovered any interesting brands while at a farmers market, leave me a comment below.
